A boardroom review provides the table to evaluate their performance in a comprehensive way. It helps table members identify the elements of longevity, as well as weaknesses in their connections, leadership and their culture that could lead to changes in both the social and practical aspects. It helps ensure that those who pay to join a table are properly equipped to fulfill their obligations.

The research area is developing, and there are still several challenges. Firstly, the current empirical evidence is mixed on how dissent influences boards and their function. While some studies highlight positive (Zona 2016) and curvilinear impacts, others report negative (Brown, Buchholtz and Butts 2019), non-significant or mixed results (Heemskerk, Heemskerk, and Wats 2015; Minichilli et al. 2012) relationships between dissent and the board’s performance.

The literature does not offer an understanding of the factors that influence the dynamics of dissension. Future research should create a more integrated theoretical approach to understand the underlying causes of this governance phenomenon. This could include the use of a configurational approach (Federo and Saz Carranza 2018; Schiell, Lewellyn and Yan 2023) to assist researchers to better understand how board attributes processes, contexts, and even processes relate to necessary and sufficient causality in governance issues.

Finaly, some studies use a narrow definition for dissent but do not provide precise measurement methods. These studies are prone to measurement errors. Therefore, it is beneficial to continue studies to create more robust and precise methods of measuring dissent.
